The team of nine, led by Phil Roker, Owner | MD will set off from London on 8th September 2018, and after averaging 100 miles per day (and a gruelling 27,228 feet total elevation) is set to arrive at the Museum of Vacherin in Charbonnierès on the French / Swiss border near Lake Geneva. The epic ride will take them through Brittany, Loire, Burgundy, The Centre and finally the Jura region.
Team Tour de Vacherin is Phil, Tom Rule, Simon Macfarlane, Lewis Linley, Paul Matthews, Hamish Thorn, Ula Bardovskaja, Lawrence Newsham and Simon William-Smith.
But this is no team jolly! The aim is to raise a minimum of £15,000 for our charity partner, Luminary Bakery. Based in Hackney, Luminary is a social enterprise designed to offer women who have had a social and economic disadvantage the opportunity to build a future for themselves. Luminary use baking as a tool to take the women on a journey to employability and entrepreneurship, equipping them with transferrable skills for the working world.
We asked Alice what impact our fundraising will have for Luminary and the women whom they support
“Luminary love working with Vacherin who support what we do in such a range of ways. This fundraiser is particularly exciting as it will provide a high-spec training facility for our women to undertake their training. Luminary supports women who are some of the most disadvantaged in the UK, they have huge potential and we believe they deserve the best. Currently women on our courses are having to share basic equipment which isn’t fit for purpose. This fundraising will fit-out a ‘bake-off’ style kitchen so each trainee can have their own station, and they can practice with equipment they will use in a professional kitchen once they step into their hospitality career.”
